Some ideas

After the charity post , some commented and gave me some ideas , especially blog ME (that is her name )that i liked her idea a lot.

1- haal said that we should start simple and spread the word , and put the rest of food after every meal in a platic dish and give to someone in the street who give it some one needy
2- some others stated that they want to give out some in kind contributions rather than money , in egypt, there is an organization that accepts all inkind contributions (clothes, furniture, medicine, sheets) and distributes to poor families or they make out exhibitions in poor areas. the most famous for me is resala organization. www.resala.org
3- the third i dea that i liked the most is from a blogger called Me , who said that she collects the extra medicine that people buys for a certain purpose and then afterwards they dont use , and could be left till expired. actually i experience that sometimes especially with vitamines. And vitamines are indeed very essential and important in some treatments , the doctors prescribe it with the regular medicine .

well i am calling any oneto share by his own or with blogger Me in that medicine thing, because actually medicines are a great problem , they are extreemly expensive and some times unavailable.

Roora,

I would be very careful with giving away medicine without supervision of a pharmacist or a doctor. Some people have side affects and dangerous allergies with certain medicines (may cause long term illness or death). The human body develops allergies every 4 years towards some medicines.

Food (especially canned food), clothes and shoes are excellent giveaway. I'm not sure about Egypt but there are some women shelters here in the US for abused women and children and I know in Egypt there are some through mosques and churches.

I think poor areas in Egypt are well known, orphanages and human rights organizations can be of a help. I think this project can be huge if you get restaurants and hotels to chip in with their leftover food. I know that the health ministry here in the US will confiscate any leftovers for health reasons. I worked with the Rotary club and the lions club in our small town to make sure that the food from restaurants goes to shelters and it really helped the needy.

This might not be practical in Egypt but I can't think of a better route.

If all fails the bewab, cleaning lady etc... will be your best bet.

Sorry ya Roora.. been so busy so I haven't been blogging/reading blogs for the past 2 days ...

anyway .. glad you liked the idea.. but it wasn't "my personal idea" .. just clarifying so that I don't take credit for something not completely mine :-)...

Now to clarify a few things:

- I'm not a doctor/pharmacist .. so all I do is collect the medicine ...

- A group of pharmacists sort out the medicine and see what has expired.. what can't be given away coz it's opened (as that's the case with "some" medicine)etc..

- As Twosret said ... giving medicine away without supervision of a pharmacist or a doctor is not a good idea ... in our case .. we have doctors who give the medicine away ... as far as I know they give it to "their patients" who can't afford to buy the medicine.. those doctors work in public hospitals where a lot of the time not all types of medicines are available (or so I hear)... what I mean to clarify here is that the medicine is given away under supervision wal7amdulilah...

- I do this through an NGO here in Alex. called 7omat Elmostaqbal... I don't know if they have a branch in Cairo though :-?

feel free to contact me at meblogging@yahoo.com if you want anything ya gamila

roora,
I also feel great empathy for those I see who have so very little, not enough to eat, no medicine to treat disease. Every month I make a donation to UNICEF. I do not have much money myself, but I give what I can. According to their website, even a little bit can help. $1.20 can immunize a woman of childbearing age against tetanus. $17 can immunize a child against the six major childhood diseases. $5 can provide an emergency health kit for one person for three months, with medical supplies and drugs to cover basic health needs.$87 can provide a basic family water kit for ten households, with detergent, soap, wash basin, towels, bucket and water purification tablets. All amounts are shown in US dollars. I have done my research and believe in the worthiness of UNICEF. I trust my money goes to those in need. If we all do or give a little, so many could be helped.

i will indeed ISA, that is a good idea , i guess they have something like medical center where they can examine the patients free of charge but no idea about distributing free medicine , i will tell them of that f3lan , good idea ya ME.

and then if it worked i will post here again so as people can call them and take the extra medicine , actually they have something great that they make delivery for an donations. you can just call them and they come to you at home.

Roora,
UNICEF efforts are indeed international. The website to visit is: www.unicef.org
There you can find all the information regarding their organization, where they work, what they do, and what they spend your money on.
